RIVERHEAD, NY – April 25, 2012 – Yesterday, at the General Legislative Meeting in Riverhead, Legislator Sarah Anker acknowledged Applebee’s in Miller Place for its community work and dedication toward helping numerous local groups gain support and awareness for their causes. Legislator Anker commended Applebee’s, operated by Doherty Enterprises, Inc., for their community involvement throughout Suffolk County and Brookhaven.
She presented a certificate of appreciation to Marc Prince, Director of Operations for Applebee’s and Dean Polycranos, Assistant General Manager of the Miller Place restaurant, for their help with the American Red Cross “Walk for Disaster Relief”, the ALS Walk, as well as their role in honoring Veterans with free meals on Veterans Day, and hosting Flapjack Fundraisers which helped support Operation Veronica and VFW Post 6249.
Earlier this year, in Suffolk, Applebee’s fundraising activities at its Shirley, Long Island restaurant helped 7-year Nora Getchell locate a life-saving bone marrow donor. While, members of the Satchem East’s varsity and JV girls softball teams held a car wash fundraiser at Applebee’s in Farmingville that raised $1,400 for the Wojciechowski family whose home was destroyed in a recent fire. Prince and Polycranos were joined at the podium by Joe Cognitore Commander of the VFW Post 6249 when receiving the commendation.
